Outdoors in round pens and small arenas horses are teaching men and women from all walks of life lessons that have the potential to change their personal and professional lives. Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) is an innovative, interactive approach that actively engages horses in facilitating the learning experiences of humans. Research has shown conclusively that horses have the uncanny ability to mirror human emotions - anger, frustration, fear, vulnerability, sadness, grief, anxiety, and even joy and happiness - in the moment. They're emotional barometers. Studying and interpreting a horse's responses to our behavior provides healthy insights into our own intentions and mind-set, enabling us to make adjustments that help ensure more constructive interactions. The lessons learned during EFL programs or individual sessions are then applied to our daily lives.

Equinimity's programs are founded in the Epona Approach™ to EFL, an experiential learning model that builds and expands participants' emotional intelligence, self-awareness and leadership skills via safe, structured non-riding activities with equines. Emerging from the therapeutic riding movement in the 1990s in Tucson, AZ, the Epona Approach™ was developed by Linda Kohanov, author of The Tao Of Equus, Riding Between The Worlds, Way Of The Horse, and the soon to be published Power Of The Herd. Since 2003, an international group of more than 225 individuals - educators, human development professionals, therapists, social workers and medical doctors, among many others - have apprenticed with Linda at her ranch in Arizona to learn and teach the techniques she pioneered.

Based in Baltimore, MD, Equinimity was established in 2008 to introduce young people and adults to the exciting new world of personal and professional development opportunities that the Epona Approach™ offers. No prior horse experience is necessary, just a willingness to engage in a dynamic new way of learning and thinking.
